David Layland
Joint MD - Japanese Knotweed Control

David Layland is joint managing director of Japanese Knotweed Control (JKC), a pioneering company at the forefront of the invasive plant treatment industry for the past ten years and responsible for introducing the innovative stem injection treatment method into the UK and Europe.

Prior to setting up JKC with business partner Richard Podmore, David held a number of senior positions within the leisure and hospitality sectors, working for InterContinental and Granada PLCs.  His strong corporate credentials and international sales and marketing experience quickly helped establish JKC as a leading player in the multi-million pound treatment sector.

With its emphasis on providing cost-effective and ecologically-sound solutions, JKC works for a broad range of commercial customers and has an extensive network of environmental and amenity contacts across both the public and private sectors.

A founder member of the Invasive Non-Native Species Association (INNSA) and an active member of the Amenity Forum, David is a vociferous campaigner for improved standards, accreditations, legislative compliance and training across the treatment industry.  He has written several technical articles and papers championing ‘best practice’ and the need for greater professional competence and accountability, and he regularly presents on this subject at conferences and seminars, home and abroad.
